BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity volleyball team was rewarded this week for a successful 2007 campaign with a number-four seed in the state Class 3A-East Region tournament.
The Seahawks finished with an impressive 13-2 mark overall including an 8-2 mark in the Bayside Conference. Decatur loss to Parkside, 3-0, back on September 20, and fell to James M. Bennett, 3-1, on October 17 for its only two match losses of the season. Otherwise, the Seahawks were nearly perfect with 13 match wins including eight 3-0 sweeps.
Decatur will make its first appearance in the Class 3A tournament this year after the school was moved up a class because of increasing enrollment figures. As a result, the Seahawks will face some unfamiliar foes as they attempt to advance in the state playoffs.
Decatur, seeded fourth in the Class 3A-East tournament, gets the post-season started tonight at home against Meade High School, which is seeded 13th. Should the Seahawks get by Meade, they would host another home match on Monday against another winner in the first round, most likely Long Reach High School.
