Decatur Boys Split Two Games This Week

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team split a pair of games this week, beating Mardela, 2-1, at home last Friday before falling to Crisfield, 3-2, in overtime on the road on Tuesday.

Against Mardela last Friday, the Warriors got on the board first with a goal about 15 minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. With just over three minutes remaining in the first, Decatur’s Wyatt Church scored to even the score at 1-1, which is how the first half ended.

The score remained tied through much of the second half before Church scored again for Decatur with about 12 minutes left in the game. The Seahawks held Mardela at bay the rest of the way and won to game, 2-1, to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

On Tuesday, the Seahawks traveled to Crisfield and fell to the Crabbers, 3-2, in overtime. Decatur got goals from Church and Evan Conboy, while Crisfield got a hat trick from Johnny Taylor, the third coming in overtime to down the Seahawks, 3-2. With the loss, Decatur’s record dropped to 2-1 on the season.
