Lara Coyman and her daughter, Emma, celebrate American Education Week at Showell Elementary.  In her third grade classroom, Emma is creating a fish to explain adaptations.

Buckingham Elementary third grade students Ziquase Duffy, Jamira Johnson and Emily Bowden are explaining their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) project to BES Principal, Dee Shorts. After reading about pilgrim houses, students recreated them within a team. They had to refer back to their readings in order to make them as accurately possible.

Fourth grade students Christian Miller, Imani Walker and Tia Scordo at Buckingham Elementary School participated in an arts immersion lesson co-taught by art teacher Mrs. Reid and general education teacher Ms. Bullock. Worcester Preparatory School seniors Megan Kuczma, left, and Chase Schmehling created tributes to United States veterans by creating two bulletin boards featuring relatives of WPS students who served in the armed services. Kuczma and Schmehling began with one bulletin board but soon realized that they had more information than would fit on the board.

Third grade gardeners from Showell Elementary helped with the beautification of school grounds by planting new bushes during the Garden Club After School Academy class.

County Commissioner Bud Church visited Mia Johnson in Mrs. Justice’s fourth grade classroom during American Education Week. She had written a letter inviting Church to her classroom to observe all the wonderful subjects that she is learning about at Ocean City Elementary. Church presented her with a special pin of recognition.

Stephen Decatur High School Future Educators of America members Kiley Cooke, Katie VanBruggen, and Taylor Black served as greeters during American Education Week, Nov. 18-22. The Stephen Decatur High School After School Academy Spanish Club created and painted authentic piñatas made from balloons and paper mache. The club will be donating the pinatas to Friends Forever Learning Center to spread cultural awareness. Ocean City Elementary School recently held Red Ribbon Week activities. One activity the student body participated in was the “OCES Jump Wave”. During the Jump Wave, all students did one minute of continuous jumping jacks simultaneously followed by a heart-rate check.
