BERLIN — JoAnne Sutton Quillin, age 65, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Sutton and Bertha Mae Rohm Sutton Aydelotte. She was also preceded in death by her step father John Aydelotte.

She is survived by her husband, Horace “Skip” Quillin, formerly of Davis Ice and Coal and a retired director at Calvin B. Taylor Bank. She is also survived by her daughter, Jodi Bounds Danzi and her husband Rick Danzi of Piney Island in Bishopville; a sister, Mary Jo Mathos and her husband Dave of Salisbury; a nephew, Joseph McCarthy; a niece, Katie McCarthy; and a half brother John Aydelotte of Parsonsburg.

Quillin had been a Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Berlin, had owned and operated the Added Touch Frame Shop in Berlin, was an associate with Davis Ice and Coal, was a member of Stevenson United Methodist Church and had been a bookkeeper and real estate appraiser.

Cremation followed her death. A memorial service will be announced at a future date. OCEAN PINES — Marion “Jim” Grimes, 86, of Ocean Pines, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at Atlantic General Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Howard County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Alfred Edward Giddings, Mary Hobbs Giddings and stepmother, Helen Giddings.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and member of the Joshua House Ministries in Gumboro, Del.

In addition to her parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cissel C. Grimes; two brothers, Leroy Giddings and George Giddings; and a sister, Frances “Pete” Grimes.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, William and Lisa Grimes of Delmar, Barbara and Shimon Dahan of Ocean Pines and Greg and Terri Grimes of Louisville, Ky.; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles “Bubby” Giddings; a sister, Mary “Mike” Boyce; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Interment followed at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Pastor Chuck Reynolds officiated.

BERLIN — Robert D. “Bob” Korb, Sr., 67, of Manteo, N.C., beloved husband of Mary Fay Kemp, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at his home.

Born in Baltimore, Robert was the son of the late Berner and Audrey O’Neal Korb. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Robert Korb, III.

Bob was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, the Manteo Masonic Lodge, an amateur radio operator “K4ORB” and a retired volunteer firefighter.

Bob was a compassionate man who enjoyed helping others, living by the ocean and tinkering with electronics.

Bob is survived by and was extremely loving and proud of his three children and two step children, Kevin Korb and his wife Debbie of Stevensville, Md., Robert Korb, Jr. and his fiancé Angela Gainer of Salisbury, Courtney Brassell and her husband Jim of Singapore, Jamie Daniels and his wife Nadine of Manteo and Mary Avery Paradine of Manteo; and his grandchildren, Kassidy and Kristopher Korb, Connor Brassell, Logan and Ainsley Daniels. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Resavage, and brother, William Korb of Glen Burnie, Md. as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and other friends.

A celebration of life for Bob will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church at 6658 Hwy 64, Manns Harbor, N.C. 27953. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Outer Banks S.P.C.A. at PO Box 2477, Manteo, N.C. 27954 or to the Mount Carmel church.

BERLIN — Billy Greene (B.G.) Smith, 78, of Berlin went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2014.

He was born Sept. 7, 1935 in Sylacauga, Ala. to the late John Reid and Lillian Greene Smith. At a very early age, the family moved to Dorchester County where he grew up in the Hurlock area and was proud to claim Puckum as home. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of Berlin American Legion 123.

B.G., his wife and children moved to Berlin in 1963 when he accepted a position with Taylor Bank where he worked for many years. Later, he owned and operated Sea Isle motel until retirement. He and his wife raised their sons on the family farm where they have lived for 45 years.

For most of his life, B.G. was involved in ministry serving in various Christian leadership roles. He attended Buckingham Presbyterian Church in Berlin. He was a member of the Masonic Order for 53 years and a proud member of Berlin Evergreen Lodge 153. He presided as High Priest of Royal Arch Masons and was a member of the Commandery and Boumi Temple. He enjoyed fellowship with the community couples’ Bible study for over 35 years.

B.G., or “Pop Pop” as his grandchildren called him, was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He loved to laugh and to make people laugh. He loved to fellowship over food, watch the news and spend his days with his beloved wife (who was also his high school sweetheart). He was the kind of man that lit up a room when he walked in it, and to those he loved he was a strong encourager to work hard, stay true to character and to serve the Lord. In all that he did, he pointed to Jesus as the provider and protector of his life.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Mary Fisher Smith. Also left to cherish his memory is his younger son, Pastor Mark James Smith (Denise), and grandchildren Rachel and Andrew Smith of Hockessin, Del. His older son, Grant Fisher Smith of Berlin, predeceased him in death 2005. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Dawn Rogers (Brooke) and grandchildren Amy Smith and Emily Smith Martinez (Alec) of San Diego, Calif. He is survived by his sister, Lillian Carmean of Blades, Del., and his sister in-law, Midge Wright (Lester) of Berlin. Four brothers, John Reid (Junior), Louie, Wallace and Eugene Smith, and three sisters, Josephine Justice, Lacelle Lauck, and Bobbie Eskridge preceded him in death. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment will be at 10 a.m. at Dale Cemetery in Whaleyville on Saturday, Jan. 24th. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon at Buckingham Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life service will begin at noon, with his son, Mark James Smith, officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buckingham Presbyterian Church Kitchen Renovation Fund, 20 S.
