We had much cooler temperatures today and the wind was absolutely cranking out of the northeast. I dropped the Fish in OC Carolina Skiff in the water for the season today at Sunset Marina and thankfully I was headed south to put it in the slip. The water was clean behind Assateague Island, but even though the wind and tide were together it was roughed up. The weather is still doable for fishing so I did have a few reports come in.
Matt up at Fenwick Tackle in Fenwick Is., DE sent this photo of Don Zaiser from Ocean City who released this nice black drum while “soaking clams” in the surf at 142nd street in OC.
My buddy Sam Tudor and “Shorebilly” Hollie Robbinson who is a “true Eastern Shore redneck” fished off of the Choptank River today and were rewarded with some pretty good snakehead fishing. Sam and Hollie had at least one nice largemouth bass and several snakeheads that were caught on the good old live minnow and bobber combo. Sam also reported that a couple of guys fishing hard for just two days caught over 200 pounds of snakehead. It looks like snakehead have made a permanent home on DelMarVa which is a big problem since they are an invasive species that can do some serious harm to local fish populations. MD DNR wants snakeheads dead so if you have any interest in fishing for them go right ahead, there are no size or creel limits on them….thankfully I hear that they are very good to eat as well so the meat should not go to waste.
