BERLIN – A local shop looks to expand on the past year’s success with a move to a new Main Street location.

Patty Jean’s Boutique, the clothing shop previously located on Broad Street, opened in May at 110 N.  Main St. Patty Jeans owner Megan Cosman said she couldn’t resist the chance to take over the space vacated by World of Toys when it moved.

“It’s on Main Street,” Cosman said. “It’s a busier location.”

Patty Jean’s spent the past year on Broad Street, in a shop previously home to Nest and then Heart of Gold Kids, both of which later moved to Main Street.

“It was a good starting spot,” she said.

And while that was the first physical location for Patty Jean’s Boutique, Cosman actually started the business — which is named for her mother, who worked as a pattern maker for Lee Jeans Company — online in 2014. At the time, she had two young children and wasn’t sure she’d be able to handle an actual storefront.

“The idea of opening a brick and mortar for a while was a little scary,” she said. “The idea (with the online shop) was we could be at home and do it.”

As business increased and her children grew older, however, Cosman decided she was ready to take the next step and find a physical location. She opened on Broad Street in 2016, and, almost exactly a year later, made the move to Main Street. Cosman, who’s always been interested in fashion, is thrilled to continue offering shoppers an array of clothing options.

“I started Patty Jean’s because I wanted to create a shopping experience for women and girls who like to have fun with style, who like to look fabulous and take a chance with the latest trends and styles, like me,” Cosman wrote on the shop’s website, www.pattyjeans.com. “The items I pick for Patty Jean’s are girly, fun, stylish, and colorful with different patterns and textures.  I want to help others infuse their wardrobe with items that they love and feel good about wearing.”

With the move to the new space, Cosman has also expanded her inventory to include items for tweens, which she describes as 7- to 15-year-olds. Cosman said that came at the request of her own daughter and her friends.

“There are no stores that carry stuff for that age bracket,” she said.

In addition, Patty Jean’s Boutique now offers an array of gifts as well. Shoppers will find candles, body scrubs and the like as well as clothing and accessories.

“We have several different styles, a good price point and gifts in all shapes and sizes,” Cosman said.

For those who can’t visit the store in Berlin, Cosman continues to maintain her online shop.

“We have an awesome clientele there,” she said.
