As a child, he was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church and enjoyed tap dancing with his sister in a local performance troupe. In high school, he played bass guitar with his band “The Villagers”. A graduate of Reading High School, Barry enlisted in the US Army at only 20 years old and served proudly during the Vietnam War. Post service, he took courses at the Pennsylvania State University. He managed the iconic Bond’s Clothiers on Penn Street in Reading, Pa. and later served as the Finance Director for a large Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Maryland. He also founded Horizon Wheels, a bicycle and moped rental shop, in Ocean City. Prior to retirement, Barry enjoyed a long, successful career with Electrolux.

Always friendly to anyone who encountered him, there was no better salesman or trainer of sales teams. He was fascinated with technology and always an early adopter of the latest video game console, cell phone, or entertainment device, much to the delight of his children. An avid photographer and editor, Barry was very active in an online Photoshop group, often teaching his skills to fellow members. He loved his family fiercely, particularly his grand-daughters, whom he photographed every chance he got.

His children fondly remember him as a fun dad who taught them to fish, drive, play cards & board games, love dogs, enjoy the beach, and appreciate good music. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his parents or his children. You could always count on him to put on some Eagles, offer you a cold beer and tell his stories. Christmas delighted him and he often stayed up all night on Christmas Eve to ensure the perfect Christmas morning for his kids. Among hundreds of hours of recorded home videos and thousands of family photos, it’s difficult to find anything with him in it because he was always behind the camera, ready to capture life’s important moments.

On Friday, May 27, 2016, exactly one week after his 69th birthday, Barry lost his battle with COPD at Inova Loudoun Hospital. He is survived by his ex-wife, Lih-Shiang Shieh (Virginia); his sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Patrick Ciervo (Utah), his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Marc Perez (California); his son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Victoria Hirneisen (Virginia); three grand-daughters, Haley, Leah, and Amber; four nieces, Tiffany, Stacy, Holly and Emily; and one nephew, Ryan.

All are welcome to join Barry’s military inurnment service on Friday, May 26 at 10 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran’s Administration, which administered medical devices and care in his last few years. Barry’s children take comfort in knowing that he has joined his parents, grandparents and beloved family dogs, Chico, Cracker, Princess and Asia, in heaven.
