BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team fell to Parkside, 8-7, in overtime last week in the first round of the state 3A-2A East region tournament.
On May 4, Decatur fell to Parkside, 10-8, in the regular season finale and, as luck would have it, drew the Rams in the first round of the regionals last Wednesday. Parkside scored first to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Seahawks responded with a goal by Dryden Brous. After Parkside went ahead, 3-1, Decatur got goals from Collin Eichelberger, Steve Alther and Tucker Cordial and took a 4-3 lead into halftime.
The Seahawks got on the board just 45 seconds into the second half on a goal by Alther to push their lead to 5-3. Parkside rallied for two goals to tie the game again at 5-5 with a lot of time left. With time running out in the third, Decatur’s Parker Wheeler scored a fast-break goal to push the Seahawks ahead again, 6-5.
Parkside found the back of the net with around five minutes remaining to tie the game at 6-6. With 1:21 remaining in the game, Wheeler scored again for the Seahawks to go ahead 7-6. However, Parkside scored with under a minute remaining to tie the game at 7-7. Parkside scored the game winner to pull out the 8-7 OT victory.
