Worcester Girls Fall in Title Game
BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity basketball team fell to Salisbury School, 40-23, in the ESIAC championship game.
The Mallards enjoyed another successful season and finished with a 12-6 record that was not diminished by the loss in the conference championship game. The Worcester girls started the regular season on a 7-0 run before hitting the wall somewhat in midseason. The Mallards went 2-5 during one stretch during the middle of the season including a string of three losses in a row.
However, the Worcester girls rallied late in the season and won their last two games heading into the ESIAC tournament. Last Wednesday, the Mallards beat Delmarva Christian, 27-14, to reach the title game. Molly Marshall led Worcester with eight points, while Sophie Brennan scored seven and Meredith Smith added six. The win set up another game against familiar rival Salisbury School in the ESIAC championship game last Friday.
In the title game, the Mallards fell to the Dragons, 40-23. Brennan led Worcester with six points, while Smith and Cecily Sass each scored five. With the win in the title game, Salisbury School completed a three-game sweep of their rival Worcester Prep on the season.
