Godwin, Brittingham Named All-State

BERLIN- The Maryland Basketball Coaches Association this week announced its All-State teams and Decatur was well-represented.

The MBCA’s lists of All-State boys and girls were dominated by players from the big metropolitan areas on the western shore, but the Eastern Shore was also well-represented this year. For example, Decatur’s Dayona Godwin, who blew away the Berlin school’s all-time career scoring record this year, was named to the First Team All-State for Class 4A-3A, joining two players from Whitman and one each from Arundel and Urbana.

Godwin, who helped lead the Seahawks to the 3A-East regional championship game, obliterated the school’s career scoring mark and ended up with over 2,000 points after the state playoffs. The only other representative from the Eastern Shore on the girls’ side was Washington High’s Danasia Roberts, who earned a spot on the 2A-1A third team.

On the boys’ side, Decatur’s Torrey Brittingham was named Second Team All-State, becoming the only player from the Eastern Shore to be named to the Class 4A-3A teams. Pocomoke’s Tyler Nixon was named to the Second Team All-State for Class 2A-1A. Brittingham helped lead the Seahawks to the state championship game, while Nixon was instrumental in Pocomoke’s state title this year.
