Hotel Introduces Suites

OCEAN CITY – The Dunes Manor Hotel and Suites announced this week the completion and introduction of the all-new Dunes Suites, located oceanfront at the beginning of the famous Ocean City Boardwalk.

The Dunes Manor was founded by the late Thelma Conner and has been serving guests in the Ocean City market since 1987, and the renovations of the former Dunes Motel oceanfront building is part of an ongoing plan to further develop their brand to meet the changing needs of today’s travelers.

The 64-room all oceanfront building will feature the new Dunes Suites, with private balconies, all new design and a kitchenette in every unit. Expected to open on April 1, to coincide with the Dunes Manor Hotel’s 29th Anniversary, guests will now have a choice of the Dunes Manor Hotel main building or these spacious suites.

Important to Thelma Conner was establishing a hotel where the guests feel they are at home and are accommodated with Eastern Shore hospitality. Today, the new generation of ownership, which includes her daughters, grandchildren and two close friends, continues to move her vision forward. In keeping with the vision, this phase of improvements opens new doors for leisure travelers and group attendees. The tradition of service and detail set forth by the hotel have made this hotel a top rated facility by Trip Advisor, with unique amenities that include a spacious oceanfront porch with wooden rocking chairs and Afternoon Tea served daily in the hotel lobby.

“The traditions of our Victorian style and warm service are a foundation for our guest services, and the addition of the Dunes Suites to our inventory will reach out to even more travelers and will be ideal for larger groups,” said General Manager Kyle Johnson.

Operated by Real Hospitality Group, based in West Ocean City, the team of the ownership, management company and on-site management have worked to seamlessly service guests in the Dunes Suites. Guests are able to enjoy a full array of services and amenities, and can park their cars, and take a short walk from the suites building to the main hotel, or hop the new cart shuttle that will run between the buildings for guest convenience.

“The goal of the team is to provide a seamless and positive guest experience, and give guests a choice of accommodations that fit their needs during their visits to Ocean City,” said Ben Seidel, President and CEO of Real Hospitality Group.

The addition of the Dunes Suites to the hotel’s room inventory will accommodate group business throughout the year, complementing the hotel’s 4,000 square feet of meeting space.

The ownership’s vision is focused on creating memories with rich traditions that have become signatures of the Dunes Manor.

Bank Joins Philanthropic Effort

OCEAB CITY – The Maryland Bankers Association Council of Professional Women in Banking and Finance annually set a Philanthropy Initiative which is in conjunction with their Annual Conference. This year’s initiative “Embrace Life, Nurture Success” Food Drive, will help the Maryland Food Bank in its mission to lead the movement and nurture the belief that together we can improve the lives of Marylanders by ending hunger.

The Bank of Ocean City has joined in support of this initiative and will hold “Cans for the Community” Food Drive to collect non-perishable food items for Diakonia.

Diakonia which is located in West Ocean City, for over 40 years has provided emergency and transitional house, emergency food services, counseling and assistance for its guests.  Diakonia is more than just a shelter, however. Diakonia attempts to address the root causes of homelessness through a variety of programs and initiatives. It operates a food pantry which provides food assistance to hundreds of needy families every month. The food pantry program also helps Diakonia maintain contact with its ‘graduates’ and ensure that they continue to have access to the counseling and support they need.

None of this comes easy. For them to keep their doors open, Diakonia receives support from individuals, local civic organizations, churches, foundations and the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore. Diakonia also receives support from the state and local governments.

The Bank of Ocean City is challenging staff, customers and the community to support the goal of collecting 1000 pounds of non-perishable food items. The Food Drive will run through April 30. On Wednesday, April 20, the bank will hold its Annual “Shred It Day” in West Ocean City to benefit the Diakonia “Cans for the Community” Food Drive. There is a limit three boxes or bags per person. Monetary donations will also be collected for Diakonia’s Food Pantry.

“We are happy to support this philanthropy initiative of Maryland Bankers Association Council of Professional Women in Banking and Finance and to support our Community, said Bank of Ocean City President and CEO Reid Tingle. “The bank’s Employee Community Outreach focuses on supporting local charities and needs in our community.”

Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at any of the bank’s six locations. Branches are located in Ocean City at 217 S. Baltimore Avenue at Dorchester Street, 5900 Coastal Highway, and 12109 Coastal Highway, in West Ocean City at Route 50 and Golf Course Road, in Ocean Pines at 11001 Nicholas Lane and in Berlin at 627 William Street.

Career Day Held

SALISBURY — The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its 9th Annual Career Day for Wicomico County ninth grade students last week at Salisbury University.

There were over 32 career fields represented. Students previously selected 4 different presentations to attend. Forty-three area professionals volunteered to speak to students about their career paths. Students were able to get insight into different fields, education and training needed, requirements, daily duties and more.

“Career Day has been such an instrumental event for 9th graders in the county,” Sophia Smecker, Director of Media & Public Relations said. “Students get first-hand insight from business professionals and suggestions on what they can start doing and planning for now to become successful in the future.”

After the event, students will participate in an essay contest on “What do you want to be after you graduate high school?” The essays are judged by a panel of Young Professional Committee members and first, second and third prizes will be awarded to students at each school.

Firm An Awards Finalist

SLIABUSRY — Delmarva Veteran Builders, the region’s only commercial construction firm dedicated to bringing employment to U.S. Armed Forces Veterans, announced it has been selected as a finalist for the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, commonly referred to as the “Freedom Award.”

The three Maryland employers of Guard and Reserve employees are among 139 semifinalists broken down into 48 large employers, 46 small employers, and 45 public sector employers.

The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to employers for their support of National Guard and Reserve members. On behalf of the Secretary of Defense, ESGR organizes the annual award program, which has presented the honor to 220 employers since 1996. Each year, up to 15 awards are presented to employers in three categories – large (500 or more employees), small (fewer than 500 employees), and public sector.

“Serving and supporting our Veterans by providing employment opportunities is our mission,” said Chris Eccleston, Delmarva Veteran Builders. “We are honored to be included in the list of semifinalists and acknowledge all other businesses for their dedication and support to our U.S. Armed Forces Veterans.”

Almost half of the U.S. military is made up of National Guard and Reserve members, many of whom also hold jobs with civilian employers. The Freedom Award recognizes those employers that provide the most outstanding support for these Citizen Warriors. Employers selected for this year’s award will be honored at the Pentagon in an official ceremony in

This year’s finalist group is comprised of 11 large employers, 10 small employers, and 9 public sector employers.

“The 2016 Freedom Award finalists reflect the diversity in size and location of employers that provide outstanding support for Guard and Reserve members,” said ESGR Executive Director Alex Baird. “These 30 finalists span the diversity of America’s workforce and prove every employer, whether large, small, public, or private, can go above and beyond for our Citizen Warriors.”
