Seahawks Strong In State Regional Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams turned in strong performances at the state Class 3A-East Region championship meet on Tuesday with several athletes placing in their respective events.

The Seahawks sent a strong representation to the 3A-East region meet at the 5th Regiment Armory in Baltimore on Tuesday. On the boys’ side, Parker Harrington finished fifth overall in the 1,600 and sixth in the 800. Jackson Mumford finished eighth in the 500, while Sean Velazquez-Alvino finished sixth in the 55 hurdles. In the field events, Evan Haas finished seventh in the pole vault, while Justin Longest finished 11th in the shot put. In the relays, the Decatur boys finished eighth in the 4×400, 11th in the 4×200 and 13th in the 4×800.

On the girls’ side of the meet, Jenna Reimer finished sixth in the 3,200, seventh in the 1,600 and 18th in the 800. Christina Romano finished 16th in the 300, and also came in sixth in the high jump. Bethany Williams was seventh in the high jump, while Malea Saunders finished 16th. Decatur finished strong in the pole vault with Jillian Mitrecic coming in fourth and Katie Hofman coming in fifth.
