Digital Upgrades

Key To Community

Editor:

Worcester County Public Schools will always be the heart and future of our community. Through a strong commitment from our Worcester County Commissioners, dedicated leadership from our Board of Education, and the support of families and local businesses, we have all reaped the benefits of providing a Blue Ribbon education as we watch so many of our students return to Worcester County, perpetuating the economic engine of our community.

But today, our public school system has an opportunity to compete globally and propel our students toward college and the future career markets. This opportunity is the Digital Conversion of our schools. As the digital world changes at the speed of light, our traditional classrooms lined with desks and chalkboards, pens, paper and spiral notebooks must be transformed so that every student in Worcester County, upon graduation, has a chance to compete and function in the digital world. Without digital conversion, our teachers are quickly losing the ability to adequately educate our students in the universal digital language that is the future. And the only way our students will be prepared for the new digital economy is to graduate from high school with years of hands on experience.

In response to the pressing need to provide every student with equal access to a digitalized education, the newly formed Worcester County Education Foundation recently launched its ambitious mission. The WCEF, an independent, public-private partnership, will raise money to assist the necessary Digital Conversion of our schools and help accelerate the timeline of its implementation and assist future needs of our schools.

The WCEF is very grateful to announce its first Superintendent’s Circle donor, Taylor Bank, supporting education at the highest level with a generous $100,000 check. With this kind of help from our Worcester County community, our children’s future is bright. We ask that every civic organization, foundation, business, parent, grandparent and community organization consider some level of giving for the next few years so that our students and our community reap the benefits of a proper education for today’s digital world. The future is now. And our students truly are the heart and future of our community.
