Seahawk Golfers Set New School Record Again

BERLIN- For the second week in a row, Stephen Decatur’s varsity golf team set a new school and Bayside South record with a team score of 147 at Nutter’s Crossing on Tuesday to remain unbeaten on the season.

Last week, the Seahawks shot a team score of 149 at Great Hope to set a new school record and what was believed to be a Bayside South record. Each of the five Decatur golfers shot unprecedented sub-40 rounds for nine holes at Great Hope and finished with a combined 149.

This week, the Decatur golfers beat their own record at Nutter’s Crossing on Tuesday, shooting a remarkable 147 to set a new school and conference record with the ink barely dry on last week’s achievement. Again, each of the five Decatur golfers shot under 40 for the nine holes.

Coach Jim Krall pointed out while the 147 at Nutter’s on Tuesday was a new school record in terms of the lowest team score, last week’s 149 at Great Hope was more impressive because Great Hope is a par-35, while Nutter’s is a par-36. Essentially, Decatur on Tuesday shot the equivalent of five-over at Great Hope and the equivalent of seven-over at Nutter’s on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, it was remarkable achievement to have each of the five golfers shoot in the 30s for the second week in a row. Danny Parker led the way with a 35 and was the medalist on the day. Matt Kristick shot a 36, Brooks Holloway shot at 37 and Delaney Iacona and Matt Kinsey each shot a 39. With the win on Tuesday, Decatur remained unbeaten at 7-0.
