Worcester Boys Off To Fast 4-1 Start

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity soccer team got its 2014 campaign off to a fast start, going 4-1 in its first five games including a 6-0 blanking of Delmarva Christian on the road on Monday.

After beating Gunston, 7-0, in the season opener back on September 3, the Mallards lost their second game to Indian River at home by the score of 8-0. Since then, the Mallards have reeled off three straight wins in impressive fashion, including an 8-1 rout of Gunston in the early season rematch last Friday, followed by a 6-0 shutout of Delmarva Christian on Monday.

Against Gunston last Friday, Brendan Miller led the Mallards with four goals, while Owen Nally and Tate Shockley each scored single goals. Charlie Pritchard pitched a shutout, recording five saves in the net. Worcester picked up where it left off on Monday with a 6-0 win over Delmarva Christian. Nally and Shockley each scored two goals, while Aria Zia-Shakieri and Elio Telo each scored on goal. Zia-Shakieri also had two assists in the win.

The Mallards face Salisbury Christian on Friday for the first of four straight home games. During the string, Worcester will also play Holly Grove next Monday, followed by Cape Henlopen and Delmarva Christian, all at home. The Mallards don’t hit the road again until October 7 against Sussex Tech.
