BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team remained unbeaten this week after winning a pair of games over Tower Hill and Salisbury School.

The Mallards beat Tower Hill, 18-5, on the road last Friday, led by Lilly DiNardo who scored five goals. Back in action on Tuesday at home against Salisbury School, the Worcester girls got out to a big early lead and never looked back on their way to a 17-0 rout.

The Mallards led 10-0 just 10 minutes into the game before pulling back on the reins somewhat against the overmatched Dragons. Worcester went into a deliberate and slow spread offense, passing the ball around the perimeter for long stretches of time in an effort to keep from running up the score. Meanwhile, the Worcester defense was largely relegated to spectator status for much of the game as the ball rarely made it down to their end of the field.

Despite slowing down the pace and backing off on the attack, Worcester added three more goals before the half and took a 13-0 lead into intermission. In the second half, with the clock running, Worcester tacked on four more goals to finish off the 17-0 win. With the win, the Mallards improved to 5-0 on the season.

The streak includes a 17-10 win over St. Mary’s Ryken, a 17-1 earlier win over Salisbury School, a narrow 9-8 win over old rival Saints Peter and Paul and the wins this week over Tower Hill and Salisbury School again. The schedule gets a little tougher for the Worcester girls going forward with a home game against Calverton this afternoon and another home game against Cape Henlopen next Thursday. Next Saturday, the Mallards will compete in the annual Karl Wolf Lacrosse Tournament at Howard High School against some of the top programs in the state.
