OCEAN CITY — Three men were arrested after a fight on a crowded downtown beach in the middle of a busy Sunday afternoon after an Ocean City Beach Patrol surf rescue technician was threatened.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Ocean City Police responded to the beach at N. Division Street for a reported group of disorderly males. The request for assistance came from an Ocean City Beach Patrol lifeguard, who told police he approached the group to speak with them, at which time one of the suspects threatened him.

When OCPD officers attempted to speak with the suspect, identified as Abdul Kargbo, 25, of Woodbridge, Va., he began cursing and yelling at the officers and attempted to leave the scene. As officers attempted to arrest Kargbo, several other members in the disorderly group began to yell at police and act in a threatening manner, according to police reports.

By that time, a large crowd had gathered causing additional officers to respond to the scene. Two other suspects, Musa Seisay, 24, of Garrisonville, Md., and Saidu Kargbo, 21, of Woodbridge, Va., assaulted officers and resisted arrest.

After the situation was calmed, Abdul Kargbo was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Saidu Kargbo and Seisay were each charged with resisting arrest, second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing and hindering a police officer. All three suspects were taken before a District Court Commissioner and each was released on personal recognizance.

  1. Is it possible for the powers that be in OC to send a message and give these people who assault police officers a harsher punishment than being released on their own personal recognizance?

These and similar incidents in OC, where police officers are assaulted, the perpetrators get at best a tap on the wrist.

Is the OCPD cool with receiving these type assaults and the perps not getting their just punishment?

  2. This isn’t what happened at all. Misrepresentation and lack of fact checking and witness comments is bad reporting. Thanks for putting out a story that condemns a stereotype.

  3. only those that withness can comment on it.these cops put alot of people live in danger, inculding an onborn child for wat nothing just because of their color…

  4. People should not tolerate rude, disruptive and obnoxious behavior in public and these thugs deserved to be arrested. If they can’t behave in civilized society the police have a duty to lock them up.

  5. all what they say is not true about guys am withness I was there when dis happened all dis wrong n lie I will be to there withness

  6. Are these criminals American citizens? How many people are released on bail in 2012? How many fail to appear in court?

  7. While I was not a witness I am a homeowner in OC and the police and beach patrol run a tight ship which is why the resort has a great reputation. People need to give authorities the respect they deserve. Kudos to the OCPD and they should be in jail for assaulting police. We don’t need troublemakers.

  8. i was a witness at the scene and what ever is written here is not what happened. these men didn’t do anything wrong. they were arrested for no reason and there was also a pregnant lady. How come you didn’t talk about her?

  9. Maybe if they were asked to pull up their droopy pants, everything would’ve been ok. Because as soon as those droopy pants are pulled up, the thugs’ attitude changes and everyone is happy again, right Councilman Ashley?

  10. The folks were adults and NOT teens. Adults get arrested each/every day. Our lifeguard and OCPD communities are well trained, well respected and especially know good judgement given our City’s current vacation season. Everyone has opinions – our beach patrol and police force cannot have opinions and must react accordingly to any given situation.

If local recall – those non-locals that go to court are reminded they are NOT locals and if they act up – they do PAY!

Thank you OCBP and OCPD for your continued service to ALL!

  12. Some of the negative remarks made r absolutely ridiculous. Police did what they did what the r paid for . These 3 look like trouble so good job oc

  13. On WJLA TV you will find a video…
Why would a lifeguard come off his stand and ask them to quiet it down on a crowded beach and be respective of others ?
Because they were being loud and disruptive. They had no respect for others on the beach.
They didn’t respective the lifeguard.. the police were called. They didn’t respective the police.

  14. I was a witness to this incident. This group was having a good time, the lifeguard approached the group in a hostile manner, one of the suspects responded back. Next thing I no over 30 policemen came BEATING THE CRAP out of the three suspects ALONG WITH A WOMAN ABT 7 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH WANDS! It was all caught in video. Police brutality at its best! I pray that woman didn’t go into premature labor due to being BEATEN by police. The suspects were just horse playing in the ocean, did that justify them being beaten along with a pregnant woman. Anyone who supports ocpd action in this situation was either not there or a racist.

  15. I was down in O.C. this past week and the police did an excellent job
in controlling the crowd. I will not be vacationing in O.C. again though due to the idiots and unsavory people that have infiltrated this beach town. This place is like the town carnivals. People you never see any other time seem to come out of the wood works. Never again!!!!

  16. I am willing to bet that before the police came they were talking in their language. Therefore how would anyone know they were cursing? And as far as disruption, isn’t it a public beach were kids scream, people yell out to their friends in the water? I didn’t know there was a noise level at the beach. This isn’t making much sense right now

  17. Show decency and respect to the other people on the beach, respect the Beach Patrol when they ask you to do something, don’t mouth off to the police, and NEVER physically touch a police officer. To the vast majority of people, regardless of color, these principles are common sense. This group was way out of line and brought all of this on themselves. I am sure all of the usual accusations of unfair treatment will arise, and more of our tax money will go to defend some unjustified lawsuit brought on by some attorney chasing fame. It is where we are in society today – “everyone else is responsible for my actions, not me”. When all else fails, claim profiling and further discredit any legitimate claims. It isn’t hard to figure out, don’t act like trash and none of this would have happened.

Thank you OCPD for attempting to maintain order and trying to keep the beach a place that a family can go. I for one recognize that your job is often a thankless one.

  18. Again, we will blame everyone else for our own poor judgement.

My interactions with members of the OCPD have always found them to be polite and professional and we should all be thankful for their efforts in making OC a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.

  19. Here is the catch. You will find out how serious the city officials are in protecting the family environment, if they support the officers on the scene or hang them out to dry…..stay tuned, true official positions will come out.

  20. If one acts like undesirables, one gets trouble. Why not act like a responsible citizen? Why bad mouth the life guard? He is there to help us if needed. The life guards rule the beach, show respect to these guys, they are the boss of the beach.
Thanks OCPD and our life guards. You people Rock…
