BERLIN- Decatur’s varsity softball team closed out its regular season with a couple of wins last weekend to finish 13-4 overall and earn a number-two seed in the state Class 3A-2A East region tournament.

Last Saturday, the Seahawks beat county rival Snow Hill, 5-2, behind Maddie Justice, who picked up the win and helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Shae Nottingham pitched in with a homer and two RBIs, while Erika Anders collected two hits.

Decatur was back at it on Monday with a season finale on the road against Mardela, which the Seahawks won, 7-0, behind a masterful one-hitter by Justice. Shelby Jones led the offense with two hits and three runs, while Justice also added two hits.

The Seahawks started the season red hot, winning their first four games by a combined scored of 62-1 behind stellar pitching and offensive production from all over the line-up. During the middle of the season, the offense dried up somewhat and Decatur found itself in several on either end of a lot of 1-0 games. However, the Seahawks got back on track late in the season and won four of their last five games.

The Seahawks are the number-two seed in the Class 3A East region tournament and earned a first-round bye. Decatur will play the winner of the first-round game between North Harford (7) and Fallston (10) in the second round.
