Narcan Training Sessions Offered To Hospitality Industry Employees

BERLIN – A local organization will host Narcan training sessions for those in the hotel, motel and real estate rental industries early next month.

Growing Hope, an organization with a goal to educate the community on the heroin and opioid epidemic, will offer three training sessions on Narcan, an antidote that reverses the effects of an overdose, June 8 at the 12th Street Howard Johnson.

Growing Hope’s Brian Shofi said those interested can attend a 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or noon session. Each class will last an hour and a half and can accommodate 20 people.

Shofi said the Narcan training sessions are a direct response to the influx of graduates that come to the resort each June and stay in hotels, motels and rentals.

“It’s in response to the wave of seniors coming in June,” he said. “We need to be prepared if necessary.”

Shofi said the organization has received the support and interest of the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association, the Boardwalk Hotel Group and Dave Robinson, Coldwell Banker’s rental department and Charles “Buddy” Jenkins to host the Narcan training sessions for industry employees.

“There was basically a need and desire to do it,” he said.

Shofi said those interested in attending a session can call Ruthie Shofi at 443-783-9723 or Judy Kisly at 443-614-2313 to reserve a time. He added that Growing Hope would add additional times and dates for training sessions if needed.

“We feel as though this is a major precautionary and preparedness exercise for the upcoming summer season,” Shofi said, “especially for seniors and graduates.”
