Man was it chilly this morning! Beautifully sunny and pretty calm to start the day, but chilly. The temperature gauge on my truck read 40 degrees and my buddy Rusty at Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club said it was 37 when his crew started the day. The wind picked up again this afternoon and blew things up, but there was some fishing.
My buddy Jason Snader was on Assateague Island yesterday and had an awesome evening. Jason and his crew caught a 22″ black drum, a 32″ red drum that was released and 13 rockfish over 28″. They kept six rockfish over the legal limit including the 42″ slob pictured below. Most of the rockfish were caught between 6 and 8PM and all of the fish were caught on peelers and clams.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing was on the bay this afternoon to take advantage of a day off and reported tough conditions. A strong breeze out of the west made it difficult to find any clean water and even more difficult to find a spot out of the wind. He and Karen were able to through some lures at the south jetty and ended up with throwback stripers and broke off two large bluefish. After a trip to Harborside Bar and Grill it was home for a nice sunset.
Captain Monty Hawkins on The Morning Star made it out to try the sea bass for the first time this season and reported a good bite this morning followed by wind and a rough ride home. There were five limits of bass on the Morning Star and several other keepers. Here’s Captain Monty’s most recent fish report.
