Mallards Fall In ESIAC Final

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team closed out the season last week with a 72-49 loss to Delmarva Christian in the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) championship game.

The Mallards had an up-and-down season for the most part and finished with a 6-9 record. Nonetheless, the Mallards found themselves in the conference championship with another rematch against top-seeded Delmarva Christian.

Worcester lost to Delmarva Christian twice during the regular season including a 48-33 loss on December 5 followed by a 50-30 loss to the Royals on December 15. The Mallards hung with Delmarva Christian early during the title game. The two teams played an even first quarter and Worcester trailed, 31-25 at the half.

However, the third quarter proved decisive as the Royals outscored the Mallards, 27-11, in the period to take control. The two teams played evenly in the fourth, but the damage had been done and the Royals cruised to the conference championship.
