Mallards Rout Saints Peter And Paul, 4-0

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s varsity field hockey team routed Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) rival Saints Peter and Paul, 4-0, last Friday, but the win was sandwiched between a pair of losses to Holly Grove.

Last Wednesday, the Mallards fell to Holly Grove, 3-1. Worcester trailed 2-0 at the half. A late goal by Rylie Carey prevented a shutout and pulled the Mallards to within one with time running down, but Holly Grove held on for the win.

Back in action last Friday at home, the Mallards routed old rival Saints Peter and Paul, 4-0. Worcester scored three first-half goals to essentially settle the issue. The Mallards got a goal from Hailee Arrington off an assist by Maya Natesan, a second goal by Carey off and assist by Arrington and a third goal by Arrington on an assist by Hana Miller. In the second half, Worcester sealed the game on another goal by Carey, assisted by Virginia Bateman.

On Monday, Worcester face Holly Grove again and fell 3-0. Holly Grove led 2-0 at the half and added another goal in the second half to secure the win. After this week’s action, the Mallards record now stands at 8-4. The Worcester girls face Delmarva Christian at home on Friday, weather permitting, on Senior Day, followed the regular season finale at Gunston on Monday.
