Worcester Girls Shutout Seahawks, 5-0

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s varsity field hockey team blanked crosstown rival Stephen Decatur, 5-0, on Monday in the season opener for both teams.

The Mallards made the short trip over to Decatur on Monday afternoon and were rewarded with a 5-0 shutout win over the Seahawks. Worcester led 3-0 at the half and tacked on two more goals in the second half to complete the 5-0 to start the season 1-0. With the loss, the Seahawks dropped to 01 on the young season.

Worcester’s Hailee Arrington scored the first of three with an unassisted goal to the get the Mallards on the scoreboard in the first. Dana Anderson scored on an assist from Rylie Carey to extend the Worcester lead to 2-0. Carey then assisted on another goal by Maya Natesen and the Mallards led 3-0 at the half.

In the second half, Arrington scored another unassisted goal, followed by a goal off an assist by Carey to close out the 5-0 win. Arrington finished with three goals, while Anderson and Natesen each scored single goals. Carey finished with three assists.
