Bennett Golfers Edge Decatur In Opener

BERLIN- Continuing a season-long feud from last year, Bennett’s varsity golf team edged Decatur in the opening match of this season at the Ocean City Golf Club on Tuesday.

Last year, Decatur and Bennett went back and forth all season with neither team gaining a significant advantage over the other in the standings. The same scenario started to play out again this year in the first match of the season at Ocean City.

Bennett shot a low team score of 169 to edge Decatur, which finished just five strokes back at 174. Cade Trauger led Bennett with a low individual score of 40 and was the medalist for the day. Savannah Scott shot 41 for Bennett, while Jake Reilly finished in 42.

Emily Malinowski led Decatur with a low individual score of 41, while Hayden Snelsire and Blake Marshall each finished in 44. Other notable scores from the opening match included Connor Mrohs of Parkside with a 43 and Reed Burleson, also of Parkside, with a 44.
