SALISBURY – Coastal Hospice & Palliative Care announces a major gift to its campaign to build Coastal Hospice at the Ocean. The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation has invested $100,000 to support the project.
This is the Perdue Foundation’s first gift to the capital campaign. Through the years, the foundation has generously supported the outreach programs and charity care of the nonprofit hospice with gifts totaling more than $60,000.
The Perdue gift will be commemorated in the naming of the foyer at the new facility, a welcoming and inviting area for family and friends visiting loved ones who are residents of the home.
“This generous gift to our capital campaign takes us one step closer to opening this much-needed care facility that will serve the entire Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland,” said Alane Capen, President of Coastal Hospice. “The Perdue Foundation’s vote of confidence in the project assures its future success.”

Coastal Hospice at the Ocean will be a hospice residence and outreach center located at The Point in Ocean Pines. It will address a growing and unmet need on the Lower Shore: a residence for hospice care for patients who are not able to stay in their homes during their final days because they lack an able caregiver.
When built, Coastal Hospice at the Ocean will feature a home-like atmosphere for residents. It will also serve as headquarters for the hospice team that cares for approximately 80 patients in their own homes each day in Worcester and Somerset counties. In addition, Coastal Hospice at the Ocean will offer palliative care clinics (to treat the physical, emotional and spiritual pain that comes with serious illness), and facilities for grief support and community education.
The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation is the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms, a third-generation, family-owned U.S. food and agriculture company headquartered in Salisbury. The foundation was established in 1957 by company founder Arthur W. Perdue and is funded through the estates of Arthur W. Perdue and Frank Perdue.
