Wound Care Center Award

BERLIN Atlantic General Hospital physicians, leaders, and clinicians gathered last week to celebrate the Wound Care Center’s receipt of the Robert A. Warriner III Center of Excellence award. The Center of Excellence award is given to Wound Care Centers® in the Healogics network that have met the highest level of quality standards for a minimum of two consecutive years.

Atlantic General’s Wound Care Center has achieved patient satisfaction rates higher than 95 percent, a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 31 median days along with several other quality standards for nine years in a row.

The center was awarded this prestigious honor by Healogics, the nation’s leading and largest wound care management company. The award is named for Warriner, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics. Across the country, 334 Centers were eligible and 169 Centers were honored with this award in 2017.

“We are so proud of the team in the Wound Care Center and the incredible care they give to each and every patient. We’re honored to be a recipient of the Robert A. Warriner III Center of Distinction Award for the ninth consecutive year, and the Robert A. Warriner III Center of Excellence award for the eighth consecutive year,” said Geri Rosol Atlantic General Hospital Wound Care Center Director.

The Wound Care Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 800 Centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. Atlantic General Wound Care Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Some of the leading-edge treatments offered at the Wound Care Center include negative pressure wound therapy, debridement, application of cellular-based tissue or skin substitutes to the wound, offloading or total contact casts and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Atlantic General Hospital’s Wound Care Center is the only center in the country to achieve these quality standards for nine straight years.

“The Wound Care Center here at Atlantic General Hospital exhibits a deep commitment to quality care and providing the personalized service and positive outcomes patients deserve. This is evident in the data – greater than 95 percent patient satisfaction rates, and being the only wound care center to receive this designation nine years in a row,” added Colleen Wareing, vice president patient care services.

Cannabis Facility Lease Inked

SALISBURY – SVN|Miller Commercial Real Estate advisors Rick Tilghman and Joey Gilkerson have collaborated to lease a 2,400-square-foot building in Snow Hill as the future home of Peninsula Alternative Health, which will be Salisbury’s only medical cannabis dispensary. Tilghman represented the landlord and Gilkerson represented the tenant in the deal.

“I am very thankful for effort Joey Gilkerson displayed during our search for a new location for Peninsula Alternative Health,” said Anthony Darby, CEO. “Given our industry we had some out of the box needs and requirements, and Joey was able to satisfy them all. The location that he was able to secure on our behalf is close to downtown, easily accessible to the bypass and will allow us to best serve our patients throughout Delmarva.”

Company Joins Green Bureau

LEWES, Del. – Having been an environmentally conscious company since it opened in 1991, Atlantic Millwork & Cabinetry has taken major steps toward increasing its commitment to being green and recently joined the Green Business Bureau (GBB), which is a national membership organization that uses an online assessment to certify green businesses.

With the aid of a grant from the Rural Energy for America Program that covered 25% of the cost, Atlantic Millwork & Cabinetry commissioned The CNC Solar Company to install a 143 kW DC system on the southern facing upper roof of its warehouse. The 550 panels system has taken the company nearly off the grid and provides nearly 95% of the electricity it takes to operate their offices and warehouse.

In addition to installing solar panels on the roof of the warehouse, Atlantic Millwork & Cabinetry has reinforced their sustainable business values by recycling all paper and cardboard products, donating surplus products such as windows, doors, decking, and more to Habitat for Humanity, and even re-selling/recycling printer toner cartridges, whenever possible. Their break rooms and bathrooms now also use 100% recycled toilet paper and paper towel products.

In keeping with the sustainable business vision, Atlantic Millwork & Cabinetry plans to use the GBB online assessment tool to provide suggestions of products and practices they can implement to make the company more eco-friendly. They intend to continually focus on implementing green practices throughout their office building, warehouse, and associated facilities. The company embodies the goal to be the most environmentally responsible and ethically engaged SME (small-to-medium enterprise) in the industry.

Homebuilder Selected

SELBYVILLE, Del. — Carl M. Freeman Companies announced the selection of national homebuilder, Beazer Homes to build their coastal styled townhomes in Bayside’s newest neighborhood, Harbor Crest, a serene, tranquil and relaxing setting within Bayside that is a short distance to nature trails, biking, kayaking and SUP at the Point on Assawoman Bay.

“We are excited to have Beazer Homes at Bayside,” said Chris Garland, Senior Vice President of Development for Carl M. Freeman Companies. “Beazer brings a proven resort style home to our community and will give our new home prospects homes that take in the beauty of all that Bayside offers from golf course to water views. This will definitely compliment the awe inspiring single family homes currently being built by local award-winning homebuilder, Schell Brothers.”

“This partnership is a really exciting opportunity for us,” said Rod Hart, Division President for Beazer Homes. “Beazer has a long history of building new homes along the Delaware Beaches and we couldn’t be more excited than to partner with the Carl M. Freeman Companies – especially in a community like Bayside.”

Beazer Homes will be building four-story townhomes, all with 4 bedrooms, 3 ½ baths, and decks on every level. All townhomes will have open floor plans, large master suites and 2 car carports. Optional elevators will serve all floors.

Development is underway and furnished models are expected to be completed by this fall.

Firm Recognized

BERLIN — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Delaware Chapter recently presented Becker Morgan Group with an Honor Award, the program’s top honor, in the Built Category for the Lewes Public Library.

The awards program recognizes significant achievements in planning, design and execution of architectural projects. Awards were presented at the AIA Design Ball in Wilmington, Del. An independent jury gave this project the highest recognition noting the design was “very pleasing, very inviting, very flexible … the library becomes a space for the entire community.”

The new Lewes Public Library is the culmination of a 6-year planning effort which included multiple site options and extensive community involvement in the design effort. The new 28,500-square-foot facility nearly doubles the size of the library it replaced to address growing population and service needs.

“The project was designed to be reflective of the local seaside vernacular, taking cues from old lifesaving stations as well as paying homage to the site’s past use as a railway spur,” said Principal Architect Brad A. Hastings.

The project was also designed to be highly energy efficient, highlighted by a 163.2 kw roof-mounted solar array which offsets 100% of the building’s projected annual electrical consumption.

Awareness Week Planned

SALISBURY — The Wound & Hyperbaric Center at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, a member of the Healogics network, is helping raise awareness of chronic wounds. The fourth annual Wound Care Awareness Week is being held from June 5 to June 9.

One of nearly 800 Healogics-managed Centers, Peninsula Wound & Hyperbaric Center offers advanced therapies to patients suffering from chronic wounds. Program directors across the nation will dedicate the entire week to educating physicians, patients and the general public about the chronic wound epidemic and the advanced wound care solutions.

It is estimated that chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb.

“We see patients living with non-healing wounds for a prolonged amount of time due to the lack of awareness of advanced wound care options,” said James Burns, DO, Medical Director of Peninsula Wound & Hyperbaric Center. “We work to educate community physicians about which of their patients can benefit from advanced wound care, and then provide coordinated care to heal that patient’s wounds.”

People with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment may benefit from a visit to the Peninsula Wound & Hyperbaric Center, or they may visit www.woundcareawarenessweek.com to learn more about Wound Care Awareness Week and to hear from patients about how wound healing changed their life.
