Worcester Girls On A Major Roll

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team has really hit its stride coming down the home stretch with four straight wins in impressive fashion after hitting a mid-season stumbling block.

The Mallards opened the season with five straight wins before suffering their first loss of the year to Bayside North power Queen Anne’s back on April 5. That loss sent the Mallards into a slight tailspin, albeit against some of the top teams on their schedule and they dropped three of the next four culminating with a 13-7 loss to crosstown rival Stephen Decatur on April 15.

Since then, it’s been lights out for the Mallards, who have now reeled off four straight. The Worcester girls got a little fight from Calverton in a 17-11 win, but have since beaten Salisbury School, 16-0, Gunston, 17-1 and now Sussex Tech, 18-1, on the road on Monday. During the recent stretch, the Mallards have outscored their opponents by a combined 51-2.

The Worcester girls wrap up the regular season on the road against always-tough Cape Henlopen on Monday before the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) playoffs begin next week.
