BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team rebounded from its one and only loss of the season last week in the Bayside Conference championship game with a come-from-behind win over visiting Atholton in the state Class 3A-East Section II semifinals at home on Tuesday.

The Seahawks went unbeaten in the regular season, the only blemish on their schedule a 1-1 tie with Bennett back on October 5. Decatur’s 10-0-1 record earned the Bayside South championship and a date with Bayside North winners Kent Island last week, but the Buccaneers outlasted the Seahawks in a double-overtime game to claim the conference championship.

Nonetheless, Decatur was awarded with a top seed in the 3A-East Section II region and a first-round bye. On Tuesday, Decatur hosted fifth-seeded Atholton in the sectional semifinal and came from behind for a 2-1 win. Atholton scored first with 17 minutes remaining in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

The Seahawks tied the game with 31 minutes left in the second half on a goal in an unsettled situation in front of the Raiders’ net. With just over 13 minutes left, Decatur scored the eventual game-winner and moved on in the regional meet with a 2-1 win.

Decatur faced Chesapeake from Anne Arundel County on Thursday in a game played too late to be included in this edition. Chesapeake upset second-seeded Bennett in its second round game on Tuesday.
