Local Teams Earn High Seeds In States

BERLIN- The state playoffs brackets for many of the fall sports were announced this week with several area teams earning high seeds and clear paths for regional championships and beyond.

In the boys’ state 3A-East Section II bracket, Decatur earned the top seed and a first-round bye. The Seahawks will face the winner of the first-round game between fourth-seeded Hammond and fifth-seeded Atholton at home next Tuesday. Bennett earned the number-two seed and will face the winner of the first-round match between Chesapeake and Northeast. Lurking on the other side of the 3A-East bracket is top-seeded Mount Hebron.

In the boys 2A-East Section II bracket, Kent Island earned the top seed and fill face the winner of the first-round match between Queen Anne’s and North Caroline. Easton is the number-two seed and will face either Parkside or Wicomico. In the 1A-East Section II bracket, Crisfield earned the top seed and will face either Mardela or Washington. Pocomoke earned the second seed and fill face Snow Hill at home next Tuesday.

In the girls’ 3A-East Section II bracket, Decatur earned a number-five seed and will fourth-seeded Northeast on the road on Friday. If the Seahawks advance, they would face top seeded Oxon Hill in the second round. Bennett is the number-two seed and will face third-seeded Chesapeake.

In the 2A-East Section II bracket, Parkside is the top seed and will face North Caroline or Easton in the second round. Kent Island is the number-two seed and will face Queen Anne’s or Wicomico in the second round. In the 1A-East Section II bracket, Snow Hill is the top seed and will host either North Caroline or Easton in the second round. Kent County is the second-seed and will face either Cambridge-South Dorchester or North Dorchester in the second round.

In the 2A-South field hockey bracket, Decatur is the fourth-seed and will face top-seeded Kent Island in the second round. Parkside is the second seed and will face third-seeded Easton in the second round. In the 1A-East bracket, Pocomoke is the top seed and advances all the way to the third round and the sectional championship on Monday where they will face either Crisfield or Washington.
