Berlin Little League All Stars Advancing

BERLIN- The Berlin Little League Senior All-Star team last week captured the Maryland District 8 championship while other teams in the program continue to advance.

The Berlin Senior League All-Star team swept three games to capture the District 8 title, culminating with an 8-1 win over West Salisbury last Thursday. Hayden Snelsire was the winning pitcher for Berlin in the district championship game. Berlin beat Delmar, 8-3, in its opener, then beat West Salisbury, 14-2, for the first time to advance to the district finals.

In the 14-2 rout of West Salisbury, Tristan McDonough was the winning pitcher and struck out five. McDonough, a Stephen Decatur High standout, also helped his own cause with a home run. Christian Harrington also homered for Berlin. West Salisbury bounced back to the loser’s bracket, but battled back to get a second chance again Berlin in the championship. However, Berlin cruised in the final with the 8-1 win to claim the district title.

Meanwhile, the Berlin Little League 9-10 All-Star team was making some noise of its own last week. The 9-10 All-Stars swept three games to claim the Delmar Tournament and set the stage for a possible deep run in the District 8 playoffs. The 9-10 All-Stars got district play off to a good start with a 7-1 win over Snow Hill last Friday, followed by a tight 9-7 win over Delmar on Tuesday. The 9-10 team played West Salisbury last night in a game played too late to be included in this edition.

The Berlin Little League All-Star 10-11 team got its District 8 tournament off to a fast start with a 5-1 win over Delmar on Tuesday. The 10-11 team will play on Saturday with a chance to advance to the district championship game on Monday. The Berlin Junior League All-Stars open district tournament play on Friday, while the Intermediate team bailed out with a 13-2 loss to Fruitland last week.
