Biz ABank of Ocean City completed recently held its Shred It Day benefiting Diakonia. The event represented a partnership with a Maryland Bankers Association initiative aimed at ending hunger in Maryland. The Shred it Day ended up shredding over 10,000 pounds of documents, collected over 3,000 pounds of food and raised $1,190 in cash donations. Biz BThe Peninsula Regional Health System officially dedicated its new Peninsula Breast Center in Salisbury on June 15 with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local physicians, clinicians and community members. The Peninsula Breast Center will provide women with comprehensive breast health services with care plans individualized for each woman.  The center will offer 3D mammography, biopsies, physician consultations and surgical services all in a single location. BERLIN — Raymond M. Thompson, President and CEO of Calvin B. Taylor Bankshares, Inc. and Calvin B. Taylor Banking Company, has announced that the bank has made application with the Maryland Division of Financial Regulation, The Virginia Bureau of Financial Institutions and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to establish a new branch location at 4116 Main St. in Chincoteague, Va.

The proposed full-service branch will provide general banking services to residents and businesses located in the Chincoteague and northern Accomack County, Va. areas.

Hospital Honored With Award

BERLIN — On Friday, June 10, Van Mitchell, Secretary for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, presented a Gold Wellness at Work award to Atlantic General Hospital in recognition of exemplary accomplishments in worksite health promotion.

The Wellness at Work Awards took place as part of the 7th annual Maryland Workplace Health & Wellness Symposium at the BWI Marriott in Linthicum Heights. Atlantic General Hospital was one of 42 businesses to receive an award.

The Wellness at Work Awards are sponsored by Healthiest Maryland Businesses, the state’s initiative to support healthy workplaces.  Employers may earn a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or On the Path award. To be eligible for an award, businesses are required to establish leadership support for wellness, create wellness committees, survey the needs and interests of their employees, set health improvement goals, and develop monitoring tools to track their outcomes over time.

Launched in 2010 and based at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Healthiest Maryland Businesses assists businesses by creating customized wellness plans, setting wellness goals and monitoring progress. Six regional coordinators around the state provide personalized guidance to businesses of all sizes. To date, over 460 businesses have signed on to take advantage of this program.

“We are thrilled to receive recognition for our efforts and commitment to providing ongoing wellness programs and events to our associates. We firmly believe the healthier we are as an organization, the better service and care we can provide to our neighbors and the many visitors to our community,” said Tracey R. State Honor Received

WILLARDS — The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research has announced that Bethany Miller is the 2016 Outstanding Customer Service Representative of the Year recipient for the state of Maryland.

To qualify for this top state honor, Miller submitted the winning essay on the topic, “Many in our industry came into insurance by chance, but have built a career by choice.  How did you come into the industry, and what are four reasons you stayed and built a career?”  Additionally, she was selected for having demonstrated outstanding service and professionalism within the insurance community.

“Bethany Miller was chosen as a state winner for exemplifying the characteristics and qualifications required to be eligible for the prestigious National Outstanding CSR of the Year Award,” said Dr. William T. Hold, president of the National Alliance.  “She represents the backbone of the insurance community, those customer service representatives distinguished for providing exceptional service on a daily basis.”

Bethany has 16 years of insurance experience. She works at Atlantic/Smith, Cropper & Deeley in the Select Business Unit delivering excellent service to small businesses in the community.

Designation Achieved

WILLARDS — Atlantic/Smith, Cropper & Deeley (ASC&D) announced that Nikki Strickler has earned her Healthcare Compliance Professional designation through the America’s Health Insurance Plans.

This designation is specifically for individuals who work to meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and ensure that their companies meet the parameters of all the new rules, regulations, and deadlines.  Strickler has passed five Healthcare Compliance Professional educational courses, attended conferences, and participated in multiple webinars.

“The changing dynamics and complexities of the Health Reform Program and escalating costs associated with this very important benefit program can be overwhelming for employers,” said ASC&D President Laura Deeley Bren. “Nikki is skilled on helping clients navigate the complexities of the Affordable Care Act compliance.”
