It got rough today buddy!! It didn’t start off too bad this morning with 2.5′ to 3′ seas with “average” wave steepness, but the forecast called for that to change drastically after lunch….and it did! Buoy station 44009 reported sea conditions changing from 2.5′ to 5.2′ and “very steep” wave steepness in just two hours. It was fishable enough this morning for a couple of the local party boats to get out, but the offshore canyons were closed for the second day in a row.
The Morning Star with Captain Monty Hawkins out of the Ocean City Fishing Center made a go at it this morning and had some pretty good fishing. Wes Pollitt reports that the Morning Star had some short flounder and a fair pick of sea bass and everyone went home with dinner. “Hurricane” Murray Adams also caught a big 18 pound false albacore on a light tackle top water lure. The Morning Star was paying close attention to the forecast and Wes says they cut the day short because of the forecast at the perfect time. Sea conditions were getting “4′-6′ and tight” and that’s no good for bottom fishing.
The Judith M out of Bahia Marina left the inlet for some fishing this morning as well and had keeper sea bass for some of their anglers to take home.
Captain John Prather on the Ocean City Guide Service had an inshore trip in the back bay today and made the best of the tough conditions. Captain John put his crew on bluefish, tautog, rockfish and hickory shad. Nothing much to take home, but a lot of fun nonetheless.
