Surf Club To Host Longboard Challenge

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Surf Club next weekend is holding the 15th Annual Longboard Team Challenge with a weekend-long festival of contests and parties at different venues around the resort.

The annual event gets underway on June 10 with an Ocean City Legends Induction Party at Barn 34 beginning at 6 p.m. On Saturday, June 11, the festivities will continue with the Ocean City Surf Club Longboard Team Challenge at the beach at the Castle in the Sand on 37th Street from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The contest will include as many as 16 five-man teams competing for bragging rights along with a plaque on the perpetual hand-carved Tiki trophy. The second-place team will receive the “Weedenfluze” runner-up trophy.

On Sunday, June 12, the Ocean City Surf Club will wrap up the event with a “Walk Da Plank” professional longboard invitational contest with cash prizes for the best of classic longboard riding. The contest features some of the top long-boarding talent on the east coast and arguably anywhere else. With a possible field of 18 to 24 entrants, competitors will be vying for a total purse of $4,750 with payouts down to eighth place.

The Ocean City Surf Club is a local non-profit organization that initiated the Adopt Your Beach program, conducted the Surf into Integrity program at Stephen Decatur Middle School, offers scholarships for local high school students, conducts year-round beach and marsh cleanups and sponsors social events for club members.
