BERLIN- With wins coming few and far between for the young, but talented Decatur boys’ varsity lacrosse team this season, it hurts a little more when a chance to pull one out slips away at the last second.
That’s just what happened last Friday when the Seahawks hosted Cambridge-South Dorchester. After a back-and-forth contest, Decatur tied the game at 7-7 with just 23 seconds remaining and it appeared to be heading into overtime. However, the Vikings got a rare faceoff win over Dryden Brous, who dominated all afternoon, and scored a game-winning goal with just a second remaining in regulation.
The Seahawks have battled hard all season and there has been no shortage of effort and desire, but they have come up on the losing end more often than not. Decatur’s record now stands at 2-7 but they have played much better than those numbers reflect, especially in recent weeks. After a 16-3 win over Kent County, their second of the year, the Seahawks’ last two losses have come by a combined three goals.
The young Seahawks have an opportunity to build on the momentum with a pair of games remaining against Bayside South rivals including Bennett at home on Friday and Parkside on the road next Wednesday.
