BERLIN- Worcester Prep sophomore Reese Gittelman over the holiday break was one of 20 young lacrosse players from all over the country to travel to Israel to teach boys and girls embracing the sport in their native land.

Gittelman traveled abroad as part of an Israel Lacrosse Winter Service trip to teach the sport to young players. She tried out and was chosen as one of 20 young girls from around the country to be part of the Under-19 Israel National Developmental Lacrosse Team.

In addition to coaching and practicing lacrosse, Gittelman and other team members were asked to collect lacrosse equipment and donate to the budding youth programs in Israel. Worcester Prep contributed to the cause, sending sticks, helmets, goalie gear and other equipment.

The purpose of the service trips is to form a growing lacrosse community in the Middle East in the hopes that female role models will inspire Israeli girls to consider playing sports. This year marked the third Israel Lacrosse winter service trip orchestrated by the national non-profit Israel Lacrosse Association founded by Scott Neiss in 2010. Gittelman will play for Worcester Prep this spring as well as the Delmarva Dolphins travel team.
