Seahawks Back On Track With Win Over Eagles

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team righted the ship on Tuesday with a decisive 64-25 win over county rival Snow Hill after dropping three straight.

The Seahawks started the season with five straight wins and were barely tested through the first segment of the 2015-1016 campaign. Just before the holiday break, the Decatur girls suffered a narrow, one-point loss to Pocomoke, 37-36, for their first defeat of the season.

The Seahawks then competed in the Governor’s Challenge holiday tournament in Salisbury during the break and took some lumps against outstanding teams from the west side of the Chesapeake. Decatur lost its Governor’s Challenge opener to McDonough, 72-30, and followed that with a 77-33 loss to Walt Whitman.

With the holidays in the rear view mirror, the Seahawks looked to get back in the win column with the regular Bayside Conference schedule resuming on Tuesday with a home game against Snow Hill and routed the Eagles, 64-25. Dayona Godwin led all scorers with 23 points, while Lexie VanKirk scored a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
