BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity soccer team captured the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Association (ESIAC) championship last week, beating Salisbury Christian, 1-0, on Friday.
The Mallards beat Salisbury School, 3-0, last Wednesday to earn a return trip to the ESIAC championship game at home against Salisbury Christian and a shot at redemption. The Jaguars beat Worcester, 3-1, in the ESIAC championship last year and the Mallards on Friday returned the favor.
Worcester’s Patrick Petrera scored the Mallards lone goal on a nice cross from Tate Shockley to stake his team to a 1-0 lead. The Worcester defense, led by goalkeeper Charlie Pritchard, did the rest, keeping the Jaguars out of the net despite some near misses to preserve the 1-0 win and the ESIAC title.
The championship win last Friday ran the Mallards’ win streak to five games and they added to that total with a 2-0 win over Sussex Tech on Monday. With the win, Worcester improved to 12-2-1 on the season, their last loss coming to Indian River back on October 9. The Mallards tied Salisbury Christian in the second game of the season and their only other loss came at the hands of Laurel back on September 21.
