BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s varsity golf team last week captured its ninth straight Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) championship and collected a lot of post-season accolades along the way.
The Mallards finished the conference championship match at GlenRiddle with a low team score of 167 to claim the title. Salisbury Christian finished second with a team score of 182 while Salisbury School was third at 216. Worcester’s Jason Cook and Salisbury Christian’s Ryan Hannigan co-medaled with low rounds of 40.
Coached by Scot Dailey and Kevin Gates, the Mallards went undefeated in the conference at 6-0 and were 20-3-1 overall. Jason Cook, who co-medaled in the championship match, was named ESIAC Player of the Year for the second straight year. Cook, who has been playing since age seven, practices up to six days a week and competes in three different leagues during the summer across Delmarva, Philadelphia and across the Bay Bridge.
In addition, five of the seven players on the All-Conference First-Team were Mallards, including Cook, John Meakin, Austin Taylor, Grant Brown and Zach Wilson.
