New Indoor Rec Facility Opens For Kids In West OC

OCEAN CITY – Kids now have a new option to stay active no matter the weather thanks to a new West Ocean City facility created just for them.

Just in time for winter, Beach Bounce, West Ocean City’s first children’s indoor recreational facility, opens Friday, Oct. 30 in the space formerly occupied by CVS on Route 611. Beach Bounce is filled with inflatables, exercise equipment and arcade games designed for children under the age of 12.

“There’s nothing like this around here unless you go to Salisbury or Bethany,” said Tony Taghipour, owner of Beach Bounce.

Taghipour, a longtime member of the community and owner of several Powerhouse Gym locations, said he first started thinking about the possibility of creating a child-centered recreation center a year ago. He says it was his gym customers, many of whom have children, who put the idea in his head.

“They say they wish we had some place like Coco’s,” he said. “We saw this need.”

Once Taghipour decided to pursue creating a bounce facility of his own, he quickly settled on the former CVS store in West Ocean City’s Food Lion shopping center as an ideal location.

“It’s located in the best part of West Ocean City,” he said, adding that it was easily accessible to both year-round residents as well as tourists visiting Ocean City and Assateague.

Taghipour pointed out that it was also in the same shopping center as one of his gyms.

“Parents, they can bring their children here and work out at Powerhouse,” he said.

After months of work, Taghipour and his staff were putting the finishing touches on Beach Bounce this week. The colorful facility features a snack bar, adult lounge area, children’s fitness equipment, arcade games and, of course, a variety of bounce houses and extreme inflatables.

The lounge area provides flatscreen televisions and allows parents to watch their kids at play.

Taghipour said the adult lounge, fitted with comfortable chairs and tables for parents accompanying their children to Beach Bounce, made his business a bit different than similar establishments in the region and elsewhere.

“A lot of these places are built just for kids,” he said. “They miss the parents.”

At Beach Bounce, however, parents can sit in the lounge and easily keep an eye on their children via the televisions set up to broadcast video from different areas of the facility.

As kids’ parties are expected to be a major source of business, Beach Bounce also features two private party rooms. Parties, which range in price depending on the number of children involved, include unlimited play time for guests, use of a private party room, pizza and drinks for guests and even a party host.

“We’ve gotten a ton of positive feedback,” said Nick Taghipour, who’s working with his father on Beach Bounce. “We have parties being booked every day.”

He added that Beach Bounce was offering 20-percent discounts on party rates in honor of the facility’s grand opening this weekend. During the grand opening celebration, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Beach Bounce will also offer free admission and a number of giveaways.

Regular rates for the facility range from $5 to $9 a child, depending on the age of the child and day of the week.
