Two Appointed To School’s Board

BERLIN – The Board of Trustees of Worcester Preparatory School (WPS) recently welcomed two new Board members, Steve Green of Berlin and Steve Hammond of West Fenwick Island. Both have been extensively involved in the school for years.

Born in Salisbury, Green grew up in Ocean City/Berlin since the age of 12. He graduated with a double major in Communications and Political Science from Loyola University-Baltimore in 1997. Green is the Editor and Publisher of the Maryland Coast Dispatch newspaper. In 2009, he was named to The Daily Record’s inaugural Top 40 under 40 VIP List for his professional accomplishments, community service and the impact of his achievements. Green was recently named the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Business Person of the Year. In addition to his commitment to WPS, his charitable contributions include serving on the Board of the Atlantic General Hospital Foundation; partnering with the Delmarva Irish/American Club on student scholarship funding; serving on the Pastor-Parish Council Committee at his church, Stevenson United Methodist Church; and advocating for adoption through writing articles for trade magazines and lecturing. He and his wife, Pam, along with their two sons, Beckett and Carson, reside in Berlin. Green is a 1993 WPS graduate and current president of the WPS Alumni Association. His son, Beckett, is a second grader at the school.

Many may recognize Hammond as the anchor and Managing Editor of the WBOC news and moderator of WBOC’s political coverage. A Baltimore native, he has traveled the world covering news for the past 30 years, earning many awards including a prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Award. His reporting has received numerous honors from the Associated Press and the Radio Television News Directors Association. After attending high school at Loyola Blakefield, Hammond graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Communications in 1985. In addition to his involvement with WPS, he has been active in many charitable organizations including The Salvation Army, Junior Achievement, March of Dimes, Easter Seals and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Hammond resides in West Fenwick Island, Del. with his wife Heather, a 1990 WPS graduate, and two sons, Graham in ninth grade and Hunter in fifth grade at WPS.

Founded in 1970, WPS currently enrolls more than 500 students, Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.
