OCEAN CITY — A puppy stolen from a foster home in West Virginia could find a safe new home in the local area after Ocean City Police were able to track the suspect to a residence in Ocean Pines and rescue the dog.

The Ocean City Police Animal Control Unit recently rescued a young puppy that had been stolen from a foster home in West Virginia. OCPD animal control officers began an investigation into a stolen puppy after being contacted by an animal shelter in Jefferson County, W.Va. Shelter staff told OCPD animal control officers a female suspect had stolen the dog, known as “Foxie,” from a foster home in West Virginia that was caring for the puppy temporarily.

West Virginia officials advised the OCPD the female suspect who stole the puppy was believed to be heading to the Ocean City area. After a thorough investigation with assistance from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, OCPD animal control officers were able to discover where the suspect was staying.

OCPD animal control officers were able to locate the suspect, and the puppy, at a residence in Ocean Pines. Animal control officers deemed the home and the suspect were not suitable for a pet and took the dog into their custody. The female suspect has theft charges pending in West Virginia.

Meanwhile, a local family who learned of the story is currently working with the West Virginia animal hospital to adopt Foxie.
