BERLIN — To highlight the SweetWater campaign, the Assateague Coastkeeper will be hosting The Waterkeeper Float for the Coast as an on-the-water celebration of clean water on Friday, Aug. 14 in Isle of Wight Bay off the bayside coast of Ocean City.
It will feature a gathering of water craft of all shapes and sizes manned by representatives of regional Waterkeeper programs, allied organizations and the general public that will convene for a floating celebration on the bay adjacent to the Roland E. Powell Convention Center where the Maryland Association of Counties will be holding its summer meeting.
Supporting the conservation of some of the nation’s most threatened rivers, streams and coastlines is a cause near and dear to SweetWater Brewing Company, as clean water is also vital to the creation of its tasty brews.
SweetWater founded the “Save Our Water” program in 2006 with its local Chattahoochee Riverkeeper in Atlanta and efforts grew larger as the brewery did. Since the inception of the program, SweetWater has helped raise more than $600,000 for the cause, with $100,000 raised in 2014 alone. The goal for the 2015 campaign is $150,000.
“As a brewery, clean water is important to us because it’s a main ingredient in making tasty beer. But in a broader sense, clean water is vital to a healthy community as a source for drinking and fishing,” says SweetWater founder Freddy Bensch. “The Save Our Water campaign is a way for us to give back to the fine folks of the Waterkeeper® Alliance who make sure we have access to clean water by conserving and protecting our waterways.”
Waterkeeper Alliance National Director Pete Nichols added, “SweetWater Brewing Company has been an important and steadfast supporter, partner and friend for more than a decade, and we’re thrilled to partner with them on the ‘Save Our Water’ campaign. We thank SweetWater for helping to protect clean water and the communities that depend upon it.”
