Decatur Girls Dominate Bayside South Awards

BERLIN- After a remarkable season, the accolades kept coming for Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team with several individual honors when the Bayside South season awards were announced this week.

The Seahawks went undefeated through the regular season, won the Bayside Conference championship and advanced to the state title game. The team accomplishments did not go unnoticed by the Bayside South, which honored several Seahawks when the conference awards were announced.

Outstanding goalkeeper Jillian Petito was named the Bayside South Defensive Player of the Year, while teammate Payton VanKirk was named Bayside South Offensive Player of the Year. Decatur dominated the Bayside South All-Conference First Team with eight players named to the squad.

In addition to Petito and Payton VanKirk, Ally Beck, Blair Yesko, Elle Bargar, Peyton Townsend, Claire Porter and Lexie VanKirk were all named to the Bayside South All-Conference First Team. Rounding out the All-Conference First Team were Alivia Roskovich, Blair Langeler, Maria Gianelle and Emily Davis from Parkside, along with Allie O’Leary from Bennett and Brooke Webster from Cambridge-South Dorchester.

Several Seahawks were named to the Bayside South All-Conference Second Team including Brigette Ardis, Jillian Mitrecic, Victoria Kerkovich and Christina Romano. Earning All Bayside South Honorable Mention were Rachel Florek, Sara Mitrecic, Erin Smith and Jordan Klebe.
