BERLIN- After losing its opening match, Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team rebounded in a big way last week, sweeping three matches to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Decatur beat Kent County, 74-6, last Wednesday. Josh Lawson (106), Robert Kaminski (113), Joey Haines (120) and Robert Scafone (126) opened with forfeit wins in the early weight class bouts. Ben Haines beat Kent County’s Kyle Clayton at 132, Andrew McKahan beat Bobby Ashley-Pinder at 138. Kent County’s Mark Blazejak beat Decatur’s Brendon Scott by fall at 145.
Tyler Vansice (152), Brandon McKenzie (160) and Gus Esham (182) then won their matches by forfeit. At 195, Decatur’s Brandon Wooten beat Kent County’s Tyron Wright. Patrick Devenny won for Decatur over Edward Collins at 220 and Ean Spencer won for Decatur by forfeit at 285.
In a dual meet at home on Friday, Decatur beat North Dorchester, 64-6, and St. Michael’s 63-12. Against North Dorchester, Lawson won by forfeit at 106. At 113, Kaminski beat North Dorchester’s Noe Cervantes. Drew Baker beat North Dorchester’s Joseph Bates at 120. Joseph Rodriguez beat Jalen Teagle at 126, Adam McInerney beat Mizell Cooper at 132 and McKahan won by forfeit at 138.
Vansice beat Evan Stiles at 152, Spencer Kaminski beat Jayke Conner at 160, Brett Kim beat Evan Jones at 170, Esham beat Justin Hardiny at 182, Wooten beat Adam Loeffler at 195, Devenny won by forfeit at 220 and Spencer beat Dylan Darby a5 285.
Against St. Michael’s, Lawson beat Tanner Richards at 106, Robert Kaminski beat Marvin Sebastian at 113, Baker beat Varuzhan Wiseley at 120 and Rodriguez beat Tyler Brooks at 126. McKahan beat St. Michael’s Luke Cummings at 138, Vansice beat Jacob Zelinshe at 152, Spencer Kaminski beat Jonathan Leonard at 160, Kim beat Curtis Loglisd at 170, Esham won by forfeit at 182, Wooten beat Carter Lentz at 195, Spencer beat Aldair Clavel at 220 and Gavin Payne won by forfeit at 285.
