Jack Burbage
Board Chair Celebrated
BERLIN – Atlantic General Hospital celebrated the commitment and service of Board of Trustees Chairman John “Jack” H. Burbage, Jr. at its recent Corporation meeting.
Burbage has served as an AGH Board of Trustees member since 2007, and while he has officially stepped down from his role as chairman, will remain an integral part of the Board. He was voted in as chairman in November 2011, serving in that role for the last three years. In addition to his involvement with the Board of Trustees, he has been a driving force in philanthropic efforts for the AGH Foundation and has helped it surpass its goals for the past several years.
At the recent AGH Corporation meeting, Burbage was presented with a gift recognizing his extraordinary service as chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Firm Announces CFO
WILLARDS — Atlantic/Smith, Cropper & Deeley announced Beth Bell as Chief Financial Officer on the ASC&D leadership team.
Bell has 12 years of executive experience in operational accounting. She was previously a CFO at two medical practices, director of finance at a local broadcasting company and controller at an Ocean City restaurant and hotel group. She has her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting.
Hospital Recognized
BERLIN — National Research Corporation has selected Atlantic General Hospital as a recipient of its 2014 Path to Excellence award.
National Research selected Path to Excellence award recipients based on their achievement within categories that patients have identified as being most important to the quality of their care. The award is only bestowed upon those organizations that are ranked by patients as being a top performer in one of the following categories: Rate Hospital, Specialty Hospital: Rank Hospital, Children’s Hospital: Overall Rating, Adult: Would Recommend Doctor’s Office, Pediatric: Would Recommend Doctor’s Office, Catalyst Improvement Planner Champion, and Most Improved Client.
The winners were selected from the extensive database of National Research hospital clients for their performance over the last four quarters. Atlantic General Hospital was selected as one of two Most Improved Organizations with respect to the doctor rating.

New Store Opens
FENWICK ISLAND — Kokkinos Creative Jewelers of Ocean City is celebrating this month’s grand opening of, Sophia’s Fine Jewelry in the Village of Fenwick.
Byron Anthony has joined John Kokkinos in this new venture and will be the managing partner at Sophia’s. Anthony has nearly 30 years’ experience in the jewelry business, he is also a bench jeweler and craftsman, and has been working with Kokkinos for last four years. Kokkinos is a Certified Master Bench Jeweler by the Jewelers of America Association and is the only one in Maryland with this distinction.
Shannon Colburn
Restaurant Promotion
BETHANY BEACH — Scott Kammerer, CEO of SoDel Concepts, announced the recent promotion of Shannon Colburn to general manager of Bluecoast Seafood Grill in Bethany Beach, Del., one of the company’s eight restaurants along the Delaware coast.
Colburn was just 19 when founder Matt Haley hired her to work at the restaurant in 2001. In addition to working with Haley, Colburn also traveled with him on numerous philanthropic missions to Nepal and to Nicaragua. Bitten by the travel bug, she resisted taking a management position in the past so she could leave her options open for the next journey. She accepted the job after Haley’s sudden death in August, when her experience and skill were especially valuable.
“Shannon has a unique and important understanding of what Matt and SoDel Concepts is all about,” Kammerer said. “She knows what he wanted for our restaurants, for our company and for our community. She was the natural choice to run Matt’s most prized restaurant.”
Colburn has worked at nearly all eight SoDel restaurants.
“Matt created a culture that demanded high quality and hard work, as well as the expectation to give back to those less fortunate,” she said. “I am honored to become the general manager of Bluecoast. It gives me the opportunity to perpetuate Matt’s legacy.”

SALISBURY – Delmarva Veteran Builders, a commercial construction firm dedicated to bringing employment to U.S. Armed Forces Veterans, announced it has received a 2104 ABC Delaware Excellence in Construction award for the restoration work the company completed on the Wicomico County States Attorney’s Office building located on Main Street in Salisbury.
