BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity soccer team dominated the Bayside South Conference post-season soccer awards when they were announced this week with five of 11 players named to the conference First-Team and a Coach of the Year Award for Maggie Berke.
The Bayside South announced its All-Conference First-Team this week and Decatur placed five players out of 11 on the team. Earning First-Team All Bayside South honors for Decatur were Jillian Petito, Lexi McDonough, Lexi Gausepohl, Ally Beck and Jenna Leitgeb.
Berke was also named Coach of the Year in the Bayside South in her first year as head coach. Berke was the former junior varsity coach and took over this fall for longtime coach Misty Bunting. Under Berke’s guidance, it was remarkable season for the Seahawks and their core of veteran seniors. Decatur went 13-1-1 on the season, their only loss coming against Northern in the state regional tournament. The Seahawks won the Bayside South title and went on to win the overall Bayside Conference tournament.
Rounding out the All Bayside South First Team were Allie O’Leary, who was named Player of the Year, and Abbey Hobbs from Bennett, Emily Davis and Maria Gianelle from Parkside, and Sydney Hall and Emily Huey from Snow Hill.
