Seahawks Bow Out In Second Round

BERLIN- After a come-from-behind win over Northeast in its state playoff opener, the Stephen Decatur boys’ varsity soccer team’s season came to an end on Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded Huntingtown.

Decatur earned a number-four seed in the state 3A-South Section I bracket and a first-round match with fifth-seeded Northeast last Friday. The Seahawks fell behind, 1-0, in the first half against Northeast, but rallied for half goals to advance. Drew Baker scored with just two minutes left in the first half to draw the Seahawks even at 1-1 heading into the intermission.

Chris Poole scored the eventual game-winner for Decatur with just about 29 minutes left in the game and the defense held on the rest of the way as the Seahawks won 2-1 to advance. The win set up a second-round matchup with top-seeded Huntingtown on the road on Tuesday. Decatur fell to Huntingtown, 5-0, on Tuesday to close out what was otherwise another successful season.
