Decatur’s Wilson Claims Two Regional Titles

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams turned in solid performances at the state 3A-South meet last week including a couple of regional championships for Hannah Wilson.

Wilson finished first in the high jump during the regional meet and also finished first in the pole vault, continuing a long history of excellence in the event at Decatur. Wilson will compete in both events at the state championship meet this weekend.

Other Decatur girls’ track athletes also turned in strong performances in their respective events at the 3A-South Regional. Rebecca Lederman finished sixth in the 400, while Katie Hoffman was 11th and Elizabeth Masters was 16th. In the 200, Lederman finished seventh and also finished seventh in the 100. Alison Alvarado was fourth in the 3,200, while Meya Chilengi was ninth and Peyton Dunham was 13th.

Alvarado was seventh in the 1,600, while Chilengi was eighth and Dunham was 14th. Alvarado will compete in the 3,200 in the state meet. In the 300 hurdles, Emily Cook was ninth and Emily Kolarik was 13th. The Decatur girls fared well in the relays, finishing fourth in the 4×800, sixth in the 4×100 and 10th in the 4×200. The 4×800 team will compete in the state meet.

The Decatur boys also had a strong meet in regionals, particularly in the field events. For example, Evan Haas was first in the pole vault, while Adam Kristick was second. Jakhai Woodard was second in the long jump, while Jack Lanier was 21st. Haas and Kristick will compete in pole vault in the state championship meet, while Woodard will compete in long jump.

Montez Green was 12th in the shot put and Ernest Shockley was 20th. Green also finished 13th in the discus. Ben Short finished 13th in the triple jump. In the track events, Woodard was seventh in the 100 and sixth in the 200. Kevin Herbert finished seventh in the 1,600, while Jake Gaddis was 14th. Herbert also finished ninth in the 3,200, while Gaddis was 12th and Chance Coley was 15th. Parker Harrington finished ninth in the 400, followed by Zach Bernal at 16th and Tyrese Milbourne at 23rd. Scott Berry was 10th in the 800, while Gary Frick was 15th. In the relays, Decatur finished third in the 4×800 and will compete in the state meet. The Seahawks also finished seventh in the 4×200 and eighth in the 4×800.
