Decatur Scalps Indians After 1st Bayside Loss

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team suffered its first conference loss of the season last week, falling to Bayside North power Kent Island, 1-6, but rebounded with a 23-0 shellacking of Wicomico on Monday.

The Seahawks faced one if its toughest stretches of the schedule over the last week, starting with a tight 5-2 win over Queen Anne’s last Wednesday. Decatur followed that up with a 19-5 win over Wicomico last Friday, but fell to Kent Island on the road, 19-6, on Saturday. It was the first conference loss of the season for the Seahawks. Decatur had dropped a pair of tough games against opponents on the west side of the Chesapeake in the South River Invitational on Easter weekend, but its record in the Bayside Conference was unblemished before last Saturday’s loss to Kent Island.

The Seahawks vented their frustration on Wicomico on Monday with a 23-0 win and their second over the Indians in the last three games. Decatur faces old rival Parkside at home on Friday in the regular season finale. The Seahawks beat the Rams, 23-1, back on April 2 in the regular season opener. They will likely get a rematch with Kent Island in the Bayside Championship next Tuesday.
