Local Man Killed In Accident

BERLIN — A local man perished in a two-vehicle accident on Lewis Rd. in Berlin on Wednesday evening, but the driver and two young passengers in the other vehicle escaped with minor injuries.

Around 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Worcester County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle collision on Lewis Rd. near DiCarlo Lane in Berlin. The Berlin Fire Department was also dispatched as the crash was reported to be serious. First arriving units located a two-vehicle crash involving a 2005 Hyundai and a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The preliminary investigation revealed the Hyundai was traveling north around a curve in the roadway when the operator, identified as Eltee Thomas Shockley, Jr., 63, of Snow Hill, lost control of the vehicle and struck the Chevrolet sideways.

Shockley was reported deceased on the scene. The operator of the Chevrolet as well as the two young passengers were transported by Berlin EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Lewis Rd. was closed for about five hours after the crash.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Shockley was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy and toxicology test. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Cpl. Chris Larmore at 410-632-1112 or [email protected].

Wednesday’s accident was the second fatal one in less than a week, as a local woman was killed last Friday on Route 50 when her vehicle struck a tree.
